Wartrace honors local scouts

Boy Scout Troop 307 were honored by the Board of Mayor and Aldermen during the September 19 meeting at 7:00 p.m. Troop 307 performed the prestigious presentation of colors and lead the pledge of allegiance at the town’s Well House. The scouts were presented with a resolution honoring their work within the community. The resolution acknowledges the volunteer hours of troop members, including building a pedestrian bridge at the city park.

“These boys and young men set the standards of community pride and they serve as role models to all the youth of our community,” said Mayor Thomas Hurt. “Troop 307 has been in Wartrace for decades and in fact I was a member when I was a boy. For decades, these young men have been an asset to Wartrace.”

Troop 307 has a rich history of aiding the city, especially during events. Town Alderman Vickie Smith said, “The Boy Scouts are always there when we need them. They aren’t afraid of hard work, from cleaning up all the trash during the town’s Music Fest to helping with parking during the Horse Show. I am so very proud of these young men. They truly deserve to be recognized for their years of community service.”

The scoutmasters work to provide an environment that builds character by developing self-confidence and self-reliance, according to BJ McCurry.

The meetings of the Wartrace Board of Mayor and Aldermen recently changed to the third Monday of each month. During the September meeting, the Board will vote on the second reading of an ordinance that would change the meeting time from 7:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., effective in October.
