Annual tree lighting kicks of holiday season in Wartrace

A local holiday tradition will be held on Friday, December 1st at 6:00 p.m. when Wartrace residents gather to welcome the arrival of the Christmas season with the 21st annual lighting celebration.

Bring your family and friends to be a part of the official countdown that lights up the town with Mayor Thomas Hurt and members of the Board of Mayor and Aldermen.

“It is so much fun for kids to see all the town’s Christmas lights come on at once,” said Mayor Hurt. “The famous Wartrace caboose, the trees, the gazebo, and the well-house are especially beautiful during the holidays.”

Following the lighting, the community sings Christmas carols by candlelight. This year the carols are being led by Duane Drake, a local businessman whose band Doubletake received the 2003 Bluegrass Band of the Year from the North American Country Music Association.

Following the lighting ceremony, officials will welcome guests to the Fire Hall on Main Street for a small reception.

Other local holiday events include:

  • Wartrace Chamber of Commerce – Christmas Decorating Contest, Monday, December 11. Judges will select the home or business showing the most “originality in displaying the Christmas spirit.” Cash prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place during the Chamber’s Holiday Mixer on December 14.

  • Festive Plates Gift Shoppe – Grand Opening Open House, Saturday, December 2
